New Arrivals from Ferti, Gryphon, and Wattsalpoag
 Last
night we received a delivery of great new products from the French game
company Ferti. We’re happy to say that we now have a supply of
PitchCar available. PitchCar is the outstandingly beautiful
game of racing skill made of wood. Build your own track, choose your car,
and pitch it! Choose the best trajectory using the safety rails, stay on
your wheels and don’t go off the track if you don’t want a penalty!
The new Gryphon series of bookshelf games has also arrived, and it
includes some great new games along with some long-awaited
reprints. Right now we have Roll Through the Ages in stock, the
new game from Matt Leacock, who designed the hugely popular Pandemic.
You can read about Roll Through the Ages on
Boardgamenews.com. The Gryphon series also includes the classic game
For Sale, plus Reiner Knizia’s Gem Dealer, High
Society, and Money. These last four games will be arriving
in the store next Tuesday.

Also new is Jet Set from a small company called Wattsalpoag. Jet
Set has really nice production values and is a great value at $29.99.
It’s also getting some interesting
reviews and comments on BGG,
so if you like transit games, you should definitely check it out.

Through
the Ages
Also arriving this coming Tuesday will be a few more copies of
Through the Ages. We’re planning a game night for Through the
Ages similar to the night we had for Brass, so if you’re
interested in learning how to play this classic game of civilization,
please drop us a line at
info@cat-n-mouse.com. The date has yet to be determined, but
we'll probably hold it on a Tuesday night.
Calling All Teachers!
Over the next few months we'll be doing some special programs for
teachers in an effort to help them to get more games into their classrooms.
We're offering teachers 20% off their entire purchase of classroom games
when they set up a customer account with us. To set up an account,
teachers must present their school I.D. as well as a copy of their
tax-exempt letter. A flyer about the offer
is available in case anyone wants to let their fellow teachers know about
the program.
In February we'll be holding a day-long showcase of brain-boosting,
educational games, highlighting titles that are great for use at home, in
the library, or in the classroom. Our resident classroom experts will
be on hand to demo the games and make suggestions about which titles will be
a good fit for you and the kids you're targeting. More details about
the date and time will be available in a week or two, so check our web site
for updates!
Also,
teachers wanting more information on the topic of using games in the
classroom will want to check out
Games for Educators. This web site is run by Mary Couzin, the
brains behind the annual Chicago Toy & Game Fair, and it contains a wealth
of good information and up-to-date articles.
TimeOut Chicago Gets in the Game at Cat & Mouse
TimeOut
Chicago sent a store explorer to Cat & Mouse in December and
featured the article in their Jan 1 issue. The photo shoot and
interview/exploration were a lot of fun, and we'd like to send special thanks to
writer Web Behrens, photographer Erica Gannett, and especially the volunteer
store explorer, Robert Diel. Robert did a wonderful job of scoping out the
store and he selected a great mix of products that give a good representation of
what our store is all about. We especially love the photo of Robert trying
his hand at Bowl-a-Mania!
Jigsaw Puzzles Make a Comeback
OK, we don't have any scientific evidence for this and some will say that
jigsaws have never gone out of style, but we've been amazed at just how many
adult jigsaw puzzles we've been going through. Seems like all kinds of
people, young and old, are drawn to this classic pastime. As one
customer put it, an evening spent with friends, a bottle of wine, and a
jigsaw puzzle is an economical, social, and relaxing way to while away the
time!
So, to help us all get through those long winter months, we're stocking
up on tons of great jigsaw puzzles. We have puzzles by Educa,
Ravensburger/FX Schmid, SunsOut, Ceaco, and more, in a wide variety of
styles, sizes and price ranges. Some have already arrived, but expect
to see a big influx of new puzzles at the store within the next two weeks.

My personal favorite and the one I hope to start soon: the amazing Garden
of Earthly Delights by Bosch, 1500 pc. from Educa. But first I need to
get the Christmas puzzle that we just finished off the dining room table!
